Everything we do is run by volunteers – no-one is paid for any role within 20th Worcester. All of this is made possible thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our adult volunteers. Through structured training and one-on-one support, we help every volunteer grow into their role and make the most of their skills and passions.
Key Roles in the Group
- Group Lead Volunteer (GLV): Provides leadership, direction and guidance to the entire volunteer team. Responsible for ensuring the group is well-resourced and functions effectively and safely.
- Section Team Leaders: Responsible for the weekly programme in each section. Ensure activities are fun, safe, inclusive, and work towards challenge awards and activity badges. Each section (except Squirrels) must offer at least one nights away experience each year.
- Chair of the Trustee Board: Oversees legal and financial governance. Leads the trustee board in supporting the GLV and holding them accountable.
- Team Members: Support across various teams, including section delivery, administration, equipment, events and governance.
- Trustees: Oversees legal and financial governance, and supports the GLV by holding them accountable.
Volunteer Training
At 20th Worcester Scout Group, we are dedicated to upholding the values, policies, and rules of The Scout Association, therefore our volunteers must complete the following training.
All our volunteers undergo enhanced DBS checks and complete core training in Safety, Safeguarding, Inclusion, and Data Protection. Safety and Safeguarding training are refreshed every three years to ensure best practices are maintained.
Volunteers who work directly with young people also receive training in First Aid and in delivering a high-quality, engaging programme. Our leadership team undertakes additional training focused on Leading Volunteers, while our Trustees complete governance-specific training to support their important oversight role.
We are proud of the commitment our volunteers make to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every young person in our group.
Joining the Team
We can only exist because so many people volunteer their time. Joining a team is easy and incredibly rewarding. Learn more at scouts.org.uk or contact to our Group Lead Volunteer (GLV) Matt Harris on matt@20thworcesterscouts.org to find out how you can get involved.
